The time for spinoffs is when a show is hot. Or if it ends on a high note (Breaking Bad to Better Call Saul).

When The Walking Dead ended in 2022, the ratings had plummeted 80 to 90% from its highs during 2013-2016. The show had overstayed its welcome for at least half a decade. Ex fans would often ask: Is that show still on?

Yet it still got three concurrent spinoffs after it ended.

How was this possible?

And the spinoffs have even worse ratings.
