The original seems to be the longest lasting (5 seasons).
The 3 spin-offs after that (1985, 2002, and 2020) all were cancelled early.
The 1985 series lasted one real season as a 60 minute format show… but was divided from 60 minutes to 30 minute episodes for cable rerun syndication and added as a 2nd and 3rd “season”. I think USA Network picked up the reruns weeknights.
The 2002 series, I don’t remember this season ever going into syndication. It was 30 minute episodes and only last 1 television season year.
The 2019 series, this season seems to have the least amount of episodes and was never aired on TV, but was created as an on-demand internet streaming show. It ran for two 10 episode seasons resulting in only 20 episodes. It was also never aired in reruns either. I always felt this show should have been released on the actual CBS network as it would have had better exposure and more viewers, but they made it an internet show instead.
Only the original 1960 series and the 1985 series ever made it into reruns and only the original seems to be the one that stood the test of time.
Why have the spin offs always failed? The concept is great, the technology we have today can make the episodes even better and more realistic, yet the spin-offs seem to not do good.
Does anyone know why this happened, not once, but 3 times now?
