I was planning to repurpose an old PC at home as a gateway itself also dhcp, hosting with apache2, Git (Gitea/Forgejo), FTP, SSH, and DNS (bind9). Sort of like a multipurpose server that didn’t connected to the outside internet for saving my projects as an NAS with more functions.

But I often broke the installation at the end, I planned to use Debian before but because it’s requiring package mirror and stuffs, I move to Ubuntu Server LTS latest. But the problem is: I don’t know to host Gitea/Forgejo on the subdomain. My main domain is kai(.)net, but even the domain don’t work at all. So I must access to the homepage with the IP which is inconvenient for me, I think I also messed up the configurations with bind9.

This is my first time on making a home server on Linux, so I need the guidances from the experienced ones here. I just want to use Linux as the server because of SSH and some utilities that are not exist on Microsoft Windows, and also for learning.

Sorry for some grammatical issues, but I need some help for this.

I asked it here because of the recommendations from one of the members on r/ubuntu because it’s unrelated to Ubuntu but goes to selfhosting in general.
