I was checking out this morning at Costco and the cashier said “we have to scan your card again”. This was after flashing my card at the old guy at the entrance and her scanning it to start ringing up my purchases.

A Costco “culture” coach (I’m assuming mid manager of some kind) comes up and scans my card. I’m already trying to get through the store with my two boys, and now this. “We see you haven’t talked to you in awhile about the benefits of the upgraded membership”. Like, get the fuck out of here. I immediate shut her down and she looked mortally wounded and tried to start in again. Looked her in the eye and politely, but firmly said “No, thank you.”

I get there are additional benefits to the executive membership, but I can barely afford the food I’m buying there. I don’t use their services and the 2% back isn’t worth my time.

I don’t usually go to Costco much because my wife does most of the shopping, but other than the price and product selection dealing with the hordes and shitty parking lot almost isn’t worth it. Trying to upsell during checkout is really fucking creepy and disingenuous.

It felt just as scuzzy on the otherside when they wanted us to sell protection plans and credit cards when I worked at Walmart.

I’m just tired of EVERYTHING trying to suck more money from me…
