A British clergyman died after a night of sex and drugs with a Belgian priest who has since been arrested on drug-related charges, Belgian authorities said on Saturday.

The 69-year-old, who has not been named, was spending the evening with his fellow cleric, 60, at a clergy house in Kalmthout north of Antwerp on Thursday when he became unwell, the prosecutor office said.

Shortly after midnight, the Belgian priest called the emergency services, who could not resuscitate his companion.

“It appears that the two men had used ecstasy and poppers together and had had sex. Two ecstasy pills were also found,” the prosecutor’s office said.

Well at least it was consensual

Says the only person who left the room alive.

I’m not saying it was or wasn’t (E: or that the death was planned or deliberate, though that is a possibility, however unlikely), or that consensually doing drugs together and having sex is wrong in itself, but the chem-sex world is absolutely rife with rape, coercion, and abuse, so to just assume it was consensual is a big leap.

The other one was a 60 yrs old guy. Assuming it was coerced is a leap. They were both adult men of similar age.

They were both adult men of similar age.

Which has literally nothing to do with consent. Men rape other men their own age all the fucking time. What a ridiculous and wilfully ignorant point to try and make, jfc…

Given what we know about the church, this very well could have been a case of being drugged and coercion.

Right? But as is always the case with sexual violence - some people will always make excuses. It’s just easier for them than confronting the reality (E: that it’s even a possibility), usually because they’re far enough removed from being at direct risk.

In their age fun can have unexpected effects. 60 is not that old, but it can happen. At least he did have some fun, an adult consensual fun is ok.

Well it was the 69 year old that died, so maybe.

But if you’re 69, and have a heart condition, I dunno. Maybe try lube instead of poppers.

On the other hand, someone might find it better to die having sex than having cancer or something…

If only they would not have to hide these things and could therefore learn how to do them safely.

Hell isn’t real, but in this case I hope he went.

Edit: I’m confused by the downvotes. Are we saying that people that have dedicated their lives to telling others they are going to be eternally punished and are a bad person because of the way they were born should have some sort of eternal reward when it turns out they were fucking hypocrites? I just want to make sure I’m clear on it. The “God hates ****” crowd gets into heaven after they die from having too much gay sex, and we’re OK with that? Coolcoolcool. I guess you can keep the downvotes coming, because I have no love for the clergy and see organized religion and its leaders as a fucking plague on humankind that should be wiped from existence, so my opinion on this matter will not change. They can burn.

Not even the denomination is named. I know a trans person who is religious and looking to become clergy because their church is open like that. We don’t know anything about these people and their beliefs or why they became priests.

Besides, your unedited message makes it sound like they deserve to go to hell simply because they had drugs or gay sex, not for any other views they had.

They’ll be Catholics, the default in Belgium. These days very open minded, all our churches have rainbows and such. Belgian moral panic Christians generally don’t go to church.

They were European, do not confuse them with American nutjobs.

Oh, are we ignoring all of the right wing shit coming out of Europe right now? Are we calling the last 2000 years of catholic rule as “growing pains”? We can just write it all off now that the priests are into poppers and bufu.

I assume you know these specific people and went to their sermons? If not then you’ve basically created an elaborate fantasy about people you don’t know, got angry about it and wished them a fate worse than death.

I asked you do you know these specific individuals in the story. You then go “I know a book” implying you don’t know these specific individuals. I don’t care about your prejudice and stereotyping - I asked if you know these people, not “the big bad clergy”.

The downvotes are probably because there’s no context, and the prescribed context from the article makes it seem like you don’t like the gays™

I had 7 downvotes before the edit. The next 30 have no excuse. They support the clergy and their persecution of the gays
