So I’ve got a variety of SM chassis here. 826, 836 and 846. The 846 is currently unused and ready to build a new compute node for my cluster.

I know that ATX, and EATX motherboards will fit, that’s easy. But will any of the other form factors used by SM motherboards fit into the 846 chassis? I’m particularly interested in the 11th or possibly the 12th generation dual motherboards.

For my use case, I just need compute. It’s common to have my servers pegged with all cores at 100% for 12 to 18hrs per day. I typically install just one SSD for the OS and ephemeral data. I don’t need a ton of pcie lanes, excessive io, memory, etc. Think continuous testing worker systems.

Point being whatever board let’s me drop in 2 CPUs is good. So I’m flexible on the mobo choice as long as it fits. So if one of the proprietary form factors is cheap and fits, that’s good enough for me. Light jank is ok as well. Once it’s in the rack the door closes and I don’t see it.

Thanks for any advise in advance!
