Hi All - Let me preface this by saying that I’m very new to all of this. I’m trying to repurpose my old PC as a NAS and so I’m thinking about setting up TrueNAS and then maybe Veeam to backup my current PC into the NAS.
I’m looking to install TrueNAS Scale on an old 80GB HDD but thought it may be good to check if the HDD is healthy. I downloaded the trial version of Hard Disk Sentinel and viewed the S.M.A.R.T. status but there’s a warning sign next to Reallocation Event Count. However, everything else says the drive is healthy.
My Questions
- Should I go ahead and download TrueNAS Scale on this HDD?
- I would like to get a better understanding of the warning sign. Is the warning sign related to “the drive tried to examine and reallocate data sector(s) 5 times”? How come Vlaue and Worst show 100 and there doesn’t seem to be any mention of 5 there?
- any other tips/suggestions you may have would be very helpful!
Thank you in advance!
