To me psychedelic music has to be at least a few of these adjectives: immersive, ethereal, atmospheric, hypnotic, spacey, entrancing and lush. Sure The Beatles, The Doors, Zeppelin, and Grateful Dead all have SOME trippy songs, generally their sound is more standard classic rock, blues rock, or americana depending on the band. Sigur Ros, Cocteau Twins, Talk Talk, Radiohead, Oceansize, TOOL, certain eras of Pink Floyd and King Crimson, Jeff Buckley, Bjork, Slowdive, and The Cure all fit the mold of deep immersive psychedelia more than most of the psychedelic rock genre does. Pink Floyd is a bit of an exception but I would argue their prog rock stuff is easily their most psychedelic music. Echoes, Pillow of Winds, SOYCD, and Be Careful with that Axe are some of their most proggy songs and very other worldly and ethereal.
