Hi guys,

My old reliable has been slowing down and I’m looking to see what I need to prioritize first for upgrading. Right now I do not want to upgrade the Motherboard and CPU yet. However, I am open to upgrading these components if I wont be able to play AAA games in the upcoming years.

I mostly use my PC for general web browsing so I don’t need it to be a work powerhouse. Outside of watching youtube videos, I use it for gaming and this is where I am looking to see improvements Ideally, while using my secondary monitor for watching youtube without experiencing lag/fps drop on my primary monitor while gaming. I am experiencing long launch times for Steam, Epic Games Launcher (several minutes at least). Games like DotA are unplayable for me now as the main pages when booting are constantly lagging. I can’t play Baldur’s Gate III or EAFC 24 either with too much lag and clunkiness. When I play OV2 with a YT video on my secondary, my memory usage goes to 97-98%.

Current specs:

  • MB :MSI Z370 PC PRO ATX
  • CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-8700K CPU @ 3.70GHz 3.70 GHz
  • GPU: nvidia geforce gttx 1080 ti
  • RAM: G.SKILL TridentZ RGB 3200 MHz - 16gb installed
  • Cooling: NZXT Kraken X62
  • Samsung 860 EVO 250 GB
  • Western Digital My Passport 25E3

Using dual monitor setup:

32’ Curved LED Monitor Samsung C32F391 (Primary)

Dell P2417H (Secondary)

Common games I play:

  • Overwatch 2
  • Sea of Thieves
  • Destiny 2
  • HotS
  • Hearthstone

I have my game launchers and games installed on my WD if that makes any difference. Is it ideal to dl games onto the SSD for faster launching and performance? I only have about 95gb left on my Samsung so wondering if this is priority 1 to upgrade. I was looking at the samsung 990 pro ssd nvme, wd sn770, Crucial P3 Plus all at 2TB if this is what I need to focus on. I also use Chrome as my browser. Not sure if any of this info helps.

Any recs would be greatly appreciated!
