Hi, all!

I’m currently running two Dell Optiplex micros in my mini home server setup:

I’ve got an Optiplex 3070 i5-9500T, 16gb ram, and a 256gb NVMe. This device is running my VPN, Prowlarr, Sonarr, Radarr, and Qbitttorrent. The sole purpose for this device currently is for downloading behind my VPN and removing the workload from my main PC and the NAS.

The second device is a Optiplex 3060 i5-8500T, 8gb ram, and 256gb ssd. It’s connected to a Yottamaster 5bay HDD enclosure with 4x 8tb HDD’s. It’s only purpose really is to run my Plex server.

I’ve also got a rpi4 8gb that is just chilling waiting for something to do after retiring as my NAS - but it might be turned into a pi hole soon.

I feel like I need to replace the fan/cooler on the 3070 as it’s giving me way more fan noise than the 3060, but I’m in no hurry for that as temps are fine.

I’m new to the whole homelab deal, but am a SysAdmin so I would consider my self knowledgeablish.

Main questions are:

  • are there any good cooling solutions for the optiplex micros?
  • outside of firewall/VPN, and security solutions I should be looking into? (Specifically anything that will shutdown connection between devices in the event of a breach)
  • Just for shiggles - are there any cases that would accommodate both of the motherboards and main components for the optiplex into one shell, rather than running two separate chases? And/or allow me to split inputs between the two so I don’t have to run separate network/Peripherals (I don’t have a 3d printer but have access to multiple)

I’m open to any other suggestions or comments on where to move from here.

Thanks!
