I like to put plates that I am filling next to single-serving sized leftover containers and then I load up each plate and each container at the same time.

Then the pans can immediately be soaked and all utensils and other items can be put directly into the dishwasher.

This allows for hot food to cool down a bit, so no one burns their tongue. I leave the leftovers open to cool down while we eat.

And it makes clean up after dinner so much easier:

Close and put away leftover containers, scrub pans, wipe stove and counters, rinse sink, run dishwasher. Kitchen closed!

(Extra: I also leave the dishwasher open so everyone puts dishes directly in the dishwasher. The sink is no man’s land. NOTHING MAY LIVE THERE, SO HELP ME GOD.)
