Hello,

I’ve been looking for Subarus as a used car, and came across an '05 Forester 2.5xt with 174,000 miles. From the listing description, it seems that the seller has been doing a frequent amount of maintenance on the car since he’s owned it. I really don’t know much about cars and am not sure if this is a possible “buy” based on the description, so I was hoping someone could offer any advice at all.

The car is listed at $4.5k.

Here is the maintenance from the listing description:

"18k miles - valve cover gaskets, head gasket, turbo intake hoses, main seal, upper & lower radiator hoses, exhaust manifold gasket, timing belt/water pump and pulleys,

-134k miles - transmission flush

-152k miles - front left CV axle replacement

-153k miles - steering gear assembly replacement

-159k miles - rear differential fluid replaced

-160k miles - all 4 struts replaced, front left control arm replaced, all 4 brake pads and rotors replaced

  • 161k miles - transmission rear mount replaced (transaxle mount)

The car does burn a bit of oil, which is also common for this era Subaru, and will burn a bit more if you drive it at higher speeds, because it is a 4 speed transmission so it will run at higher rpms on the highway than a 5 speed car."

What concerns me the most is the burning of oil. I’ve heard that this is common on certain Subaru vehicles, but I’m not sure if this would cause major issues down the road as well.

Anyway, thanks in advance to anyone who can help!
