I’m from the Midwest and have never been to the southwestern United States. My fiancé and I enjoy camping, and we have heard that the most remote parts of the desert in the southwest have the best stargazing due to a lack of light pollution, clouds, etc.

We would like to go (tent) camping in the southwest sometime in the next year. The springtime is the most likely time we would be able to get off work. Is spring okay, or will the clear night skies only be available in the summer?

Also, which state or national parks are best for this? I’ve tried researching information, but since I’m not familiar with the area, it’s hard to tell which parks are close to population centers and which ones are not. We want to find a place that is remote and free of light pollution.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.
