There must be some reason for it, they wouldn’t do it if there wasn’t an important reason. But I can’t think of a reason why. There’s some smart people in this sub, maybe one of you know?

I did an internet search before posting and the only answer I found was to make the engine more compact. But I don’t see how that makes any sense, putting it in the back doesn’t make the engine any shorter. The only engine that I’ve ever seen benefit size wise from putting a chain in back is the Ford 4.0 V6. On that engine the forward bank of cylinders has the chain on the back.

Maybe weight distribution, the chains and sprockets are a bunch of steel and the block aluminum. So maybe putting the chains on the back results in the center of mass of the engine being further back.

Anyway, IDK, does anyone here?
