    Situation in nut shell

    • City of Edinburgh Council places homeless in hotels when it reaches capacity of its own temporary accodmation spaces
    • When the Council books these rooms it’s for a duration of 7 days
    • Hotels have jacked up room prices for Taylor Swift fan bookings.
    • City council can’t afford these higher room prices and has to place locals in different cities such as Aberdeen and Newcastle.
    • This creates problem for homeless people should they need to attend appointments in the edinburgh area.

Apparently they had been giving homeless people some amount of unused hotel space.

The housing charity said people being declared homeless in Edinburgh who would usually be offered temporary accommodation such as hotels were being sent out of the city due to a severe shortage in accommodation caused by the concert.

That seems like a great initiative. It seems wild it can be completely undermined because someone famous is having a concert.

Tbf if there are shitloads of reservations it’s not ‘unused hotel rooms’ anymore. I think hotel rooms’ should be rather a temporary solution while the government is searching for a more permanent shelter. If you decide permanently use a hotel to give people shelter, that’s a great thing but then it’s not a hotel anymore.

I’d imagine the same scenario for most of August for the festival too.
