I have an rx6700xt, a Ryzen 7 5700x cpu, MSI B450M-A Pro Max mobo, and I don’t remember my psu but I do remember it was a couple hundred watts over what pcpartpicker said I’d need.

Here’s what happened. Last night I played Elden Ring on pc for the first time. I got to the grace that’s supposed to trigger Melina to spawn (lots of particles, a new npc, and a cutscene) and the moment I sat down at it, my monitors went black and my pc immediately shut down with internal lights shutting off instantly.

I’ve had similar crashes in the past that seemed to be triggered by lots of particles at once, but since then I’ve upgraded my gpu and cpu and have had no issues. Also, for those crashes I could just immediately turn the pc back on.

For last night’s crash, my pc wouldn’t turn back on. The power button had no effect whatsoever and I also tried flipping the power switch on the psu on and off a few times. I unplugged the pc overnight since I didn’t know what the problem was and figured if it was the psu it’s not a bad idea to remove it from power.

This morning, 8 hours after the crash, I plugged it back in and it powered on just fine. I checked Event Viewer and there was no useful information in there around the time of the crash.

What sort of problem could possibly occur that could cause the pc to be entirely nonfunctional at one point then seemingly normal 8 hours later without any human input? The only explanation I can think of is that something overheated, but then wouldn’t it cool to usable temperatures in a matter of seconds/minutes?
