I just started East of Eden, by John Steinbeck. And wow. I just finished Part 1, and I am thoroughly enjoying it. The dialogue, the character development, the mysterious plot. I know it is based on Cain and Abel. Should I just read and enjoy the book first, or should I do my research into its inspirations and themes before I continue/as I read?
