minus-square@[email protected]linkfedilink3•4 months agoNot for the shield, but there’s a Chinese device, Ugoos am6b+, that you can install coreelec on. Coreelec is a linux os designed to run kodi, add a plex add on and it can play almost anything. Any dolby vision profile, including the one that can usually only be played on bluray players. Any audio including TrueHD, dolby atmos, and DTS. Sucks for streaming apps sadly, so you’d have to get another device like Apple TV or something.
minus-square@[email protected]linkfedilink-12•4 months agoI really wish people would stop suggesting Kodi/Linux/Plex/Jellyfin as an alternative to Netflix and the like. These are just fundamentally different services that are not comparable. And Linux is limited to 720p.
