For years, GunZ: The Duel has survived not because of corporate backing, but because of a passionate community that refused to let it die. Players, private server hosts, and dedicated moderators on platforms like Reddit have tirelessly worked to keep the game alive, creating new content, fostering vibrant communities, and keeping the spirit of GunZ burning long after it was abandoned by its original developers.
But now, after years of neglect, Masangsoft has decided to return to the scene—not with a renewed commitment to the game or its fans, but with an eye on profiting from the very community that has done all the hard work to sustain GunZ. It’s clear that their intentions are not to revive the game out of passion, but to milk every last bit of revenue from a loyal fanbase that has kept GunZ alive.
Masangsoft has shown nothing but apathy toward GunZ for years. Now, seeing the success of private servers, community-run tournaments, and the hard work of moderators who built the game’s online presence, they want to swoop in and squeeze whatever profits they can. They’ve seen how dedicated this community is, how much players are willing to invest their time and energy to keep the game afloat—and they plan to exploit that dedication for their own gain and recover from their failed attempts of profiting from other cult classics; Microvolts, being a prime example.
Let’s not be mistaken: this is not a revival, it’s a cash grab. Masangsoft didn’t step in when the game and community needed them most. They didn’t support the private servers or show any appreciation for the moderators and fans who carried the torch all these years. Instead, they waited until the community had done all the hard work, building momentum and interest around the game once again, before trying to take credit and capitalize on it.
This isn’t about improving GunZ or respecting its legacy—it’s about squeezing every ounce of money left in the game and its fanbase. The community deserves better. The moderators and players who have kept GunZ alive for years don’t deserve to be treated as a source of revenue for a company that has done nothing but disappoint and abandon them time and again.
We must remember that the true spirit of GunZ: The Duel doesn’t lie in corporate profit margins—it lies in the community. The players, private servers, and moderators who have kept this game going are the rightful custodians of its future. Masangsoft has done nothing to earn the trust of this community, and their recent attempts to monetize other games (i.e. microvolts, DK online) only confirm that their intentions are purely driven by profit and greed.
The real heart of GunZ belongs to the community, not a company that wants to exploit it. It’s the players who gave this game its second life, and they are the ones who should shape its future—not a corporation that has failed it time and time again.
The community has kept this game alive, and it’s the community that should continue to guide it forward, free from the profit-driven motives of a company that only shows up when there’s money to be made. The future of GunZ: The Duel belongs to its players and this community; NOT Masangsoft.
More to come from the official GunZ community!
